![]() June Trips...
June is over and we are on our way to another great season. The first trip of the year was with Rocco’s group and despite unsavory weather at the beginning, it improved every day and so did the fishing. Rocco caught the fish of the month with a 26” 6 to 7 pound walleye which is the biggest walleye I have seen in 11 years of fishing in the BWCA. Along with that we caught other walleyes, smallies and numerous pike.
The water is 4 to 5 feet high. We couldn’t find the humps I like to fish so we concentrated on the shoreline and points and islands. The best lure of the month is a leadhead jig with a white twister tail. We visited Curtain Falls and with the water being high it was a powerful force. It’s a great place to take photos. We got a campsite on the way out at Lake Agnes and the fishing was great from camp. We caught walleyes and smallies and had a resident monster pike stealing our fish and breaking our lines. On the way out we saw a moose along the Nina Moose River.
![]() The second trip was with the Blake group some of which
are returning guests and some newbies. Once again, we ran into some winds but
we reached Tiger Bay in record time. Caught a few walleyes checked out the Lac
La Croix pictographs then the next day we moved on to Iron Lake.
![]() We slammed the Walleyes working rock piles and the shoreline and of course we caught smallies and northerns. (Dave caught the smallie of the month a 20 inch monster). This week we had beautiful weather until the last day but that didn’t stop this group from bringing fish to the table every day. We stayed on Tiger Bay our last night and caught quite a few walleyes again. Then we had a giant snapping turtle that was so tame he was eating fish that we were tossing him. Once again it was the white twister tail that was the ticket. ![]()
This is a great year for wildlife in the BWCA. Bring your cameras!
